Feeding Baby
Mother’s milk is the best source of nutrition for an infant as it contains all necessary ingredients that are needed for the growth and development of the baby. Feeding a baby needs good care and consideration with respect to the various factors. Due care should be taken for the babies feeding pattern, position and comfort.
Proper feeding is important during first year:
Adequate Feeding during the first year of the baby is very important as makes the baby healthy and fit and less prone to get infected. It is recommended by WHO and AAP that an infant should be fed exclusively on the mother’s milk for the first 6 months, as mother’s milk is a perfect nutritional diet for a child. The quality and the quantity of the mother’s milk are perfect for an infant. More the baby sucks, more is the production of the mothers milk and hence do not worry about any insufficient quantity. Initially it might be difficult for the baby to develop his pattern of feeding but within few weeks he gets comfortable with it.
Take care while feeding your baby:
Due care should be taken while feeding the baby so that he enjoys his feed and feel comfortable. First of all make him wear loose comfortable clothing while feeding so that your child does not get irritated in between. Change the diapers before the feed as the child’s tummy will be full after feeding. Do not be in a hurry while feeding and give pauses in between so as to make the child comfortable. Feed your child frequently during the day with smaller quantities so that he remains comfortable and sufficed. Overfeeding in any case will definitely cause him problem.
Feeding Position:
One of the most important aspects of feeding your baby is the position. While feeding your baby keep him in the upright position. After completing the feed hold him upright for around half an hour so that food gets hold in their tummies. Keeping them motionless after the feed is also very important.
Thus adequate feeding patterns, positions and care will certainly make feeding an enjoyable experience for your baby as well as for you.
